Drop me a line if you want or need anything, and I'll see what I can do. Just know that I talk A LOT. We green? Far out. I'm Chuck Fucking Hoxton on Steam.
For those of you who are still unaware, Almir answered a question about Payday 3 in a recent stream, and he admitted that it will be an online-only game. And this has, understandably, caused an uproar in the fandom. This will cause MANY problems for Payday 3, the dev team, and its players, and not just on release day. LilGuyG outlines everything in pretty good detail in the video above, if y'all would like to learn more about the future hurdles that’re comin’ our way.
I know that this can make-or-break some of y'alls’ purchasing decisions when it comes to this game–I’ve already had a friend of mine say that he’s glad that he didn’t preorder, and that now he’s thinking that he’ll never buy it until they change it to have offline-play. So, be informed now and we’ll see how things go from here.
I convinced my cousin’s parents to get PAYDAY 2 for him. He’s been waiting to play the game for over a year now and he’s totally stoked! I was watching him do the tutorials and he kept failing the stealth one so I was able to hear variations of the voice lines. Namely, Dallas mouthing off at Bain. Bain actually talks back sometimes??
Later, I made a joke about Dallas being gay. A joke! And cousin went “is he really?”
I had a moment where my mind bluescreened. Felt like forever but was probably a few seconds. Then I went “well, he only flirts with women…”
What made him think I was serious?? Does Dallas give off fruity vibes???? Dear followers, please help
Anyone from the payday the heist days, I’m very curious how it was like with hoxton being revealed to come back. And how was it like with the reveal being a fricking Christmas album?
You’re in luck, ‘cause I’m one such person! And, I’m the only one left from those days that’s still active in this fandom on here (as far as I am aware).
Anyway, when we all found out that Hoxton was coming back, that was the hypest shit ever. Like, we almost couldn’t unlock him fast enough during that Crimefest. There was a bunch of keyboard smashing, pretty much everyone was on Tumbles daily, and there were loads of posts about it. The trailer was a HUGE hit here, and people were bouncing off the walls trying to figure out how Hox got his burn scars, what the heist was gonna entail, and people just generally creaming their jorts over hearing Pete Gold’s voice again. It was a wonderful time to be on this site, quite honestly.
However, the reveal was NOT the Christmas album–that’s a current age/new player misconception. The album was just OVERKILL’s way of saying:
“Hey, we know about the petition you guys made and had a fuckloadof people sign to bring back the Brit. Here’s some Christmas songs sung by Hoxton as a treat. ;)”
And, ya know, while it was really cool, it irritated a lot of people ‘cause it was just an album, not our boy comin’ back. It kind of became it’s own conspiracy theory thing for awhile too, ‘cause people were arguing back and forth over ‘whether or not this is a sign from OVK that we’re getting Hoxton back’. There were groups of people in the ‘yes, they will’, ‘no, they won’t’, ‘I guess we’ll see’, and ‘shut up about the stupid Brit that no one but cringe people like’ camps. While it didn’t dominate discussion on here, it did come up a lot, ‘cause there were a lot of Hox fans back then.
So, yeah. Tumbles basically became like this once his return was announced:
And then once he actually came out:
THAT SOUNDS SO HYPE!! I totally forgot that if you listened to the Christmas album you’d got an idea of what would happen with hox (deck the safehouse). But I assume that was still not much, and probably confusing at the time. Until Crimefest.
But yeah that sounds like something of a golden age! Big surprises like that don’t really happen with payday 2 anymore butttt I’m hoping we can get some sort of Renaissance with the reveals in Payday 3. And new faces in the fandom too. Hell, I’ve seen people theorize here and there who’s coming back and who’s not (my safe bet is Houston being one of the other two heisters on release for pd3). And I really love that.
Also, would like to take a second to thank you for the preservation of the fandom, and the game! Admittedly I’ve gone on your page far back for fanart relics, but haven’t paid too much mind to text posts and such, so my mind was left wondering with the question I had. It’s awesome to be able to look back on fan experience even if tumblrs systems are a bit jank nowadays- whether that’s in form of fanart, fanfiction, or just pure fan reaction- I think it should be cherished. Especially with this part of the fandom being so drastically different to reddit or youtube, etc. So thank you!! Hope we still have you for Payday 3 and hope old faces and new faces come back for it too!! :D
Yeah, it was purdy hype back in the day. Most of us practically had bees in our blood–also the large influx of reinvigorated Wolfhox content was nice to witness and be a part of at the time. The trailer really rocked us all to our carbon-enriched cores and lit a fire under our asses.
Annnnnd, yeah. The surprises of more contemporary Payday aren’t really… good, aye. Most of the time it’s something cool that’s followed by frustration or even outrage. This is because–and I will always maintain this–that Almir has never been trained in PR work and he puts his foot in his mouth a lot. He’s not the only one on the dev team that does this, but he’s pushed to the forefront a lot and he actively puts himself out there all the time–which, if you’re trained in PR, you know that you shouldn’t do that. But, anyway, enough complaining, otherwise we’ll be here for hours.
I, personally, don’t think Houston’s coming back. Unless! they change his voice actor. Derek Ray was always one of the VAs that came in the least to update his lines (If you think that current Wolf is bad, Houston was actually WORSE for a long while). So, if Hous is in the new game, they’ll most likely change his VA as well. Only time will tell.
Thank you for your kind words, but I also know that my blog doesn’t contain all of the content that was uploaded over the years. There were things that I just refused to reblog ‘cause I didn’t agree with them for certain reasons. Also because of bad actors at the time who were doing or saying horrible shit–as an example, I even went back and removed some things because of a specific person’s outwardly transphobic behavior on another site (and because they were also trying to do that shit here and began targeting other users). A handful of posts were lost in the Tumblr Porn Purge when the algorithm got nasty and targeted the weirdest shit–I was only able to appeal about 3 or 4 of them to get them back. Others still were lost thanks to the Tumblr Exodus. Read mores suddenly led to dead links and entire posts were left as the top, ripped off pieces of something that used to be great (a lot of fics and art were essentially burned to ash overnight by this). But! I’m not the only source for old Payday posts. Some of the Old Guard from a couple of the different eras of this fandom are still kicking around on here–I’ve actually been following a few of them after all these years–and they still have the posts on their blogs. *Taps the side of my nose.* You just need to know where to look~
And, yeah, I’m sticking around. I still deeply love these games, even with my hang ups. Plus, somebody’s gotta be the grandpa around here, and it’s been me for years now.
